Erasmus Internship: What is it and how to qualify ?

Erasmus Internship ? Has studying abroad ever piqued your interest? Have you ever wanted to travel, meet new people, and pick up a foreign language? Have you ever been eager to meet and become friends with international students from all around the world? Have you ever considered putting yourself in a position where you will have more opportunities when you go job hunting later on? The Erasmus program may then be a great fit for you.

What is the Erasmus Internship?

For students currently enrolled in short-cycle bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes at higher education institutions in Program Countries, as well as for doctorate candidates, Erasmus+ facilitates traineeships (work placements, internships) abroad at any employer. Recent graduates are also eligible for these possibilities.

You can significantly enhance the information, abilities, and competences that employers value by participating in a traineeship overseas. Furthermore, 10% of Erasmus+ trainees have founded their own business!

Who’s eligible for the Erasmus + Internship and what’s the duration of the program?

Any student enrolled in a higher education institution with an Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education is eligible to apply for an Erasmus+ traineeship.

The traineeship must, if at all feasible, be incorporated into the study curriculum and pertinent to the demands of personal development and learning associated with the degree.

Any organisation, anywhere in the globe, can host a traineeship (with the exception of EU institutions, authorities and agencies).

The length of an internship abroad might range from two months at minimum to twelve months at most. The funded term may vary, although it typically lasts up to six months. At your university, educate yourself.

For a maximum of 12 months overall, a single student may engage in Erasmus+ mobility activities for each cycle of study (study exchange plus combined internships). The EU’s zero grant for participation also counts towards the maximum term.

Students enrolled in one-cycle studies (medicine, architecture, etc.) are eligible to study abroad for up to 24 months through Erasmus+.

Will I get paid to do an Erasmus internship, and if so, how much?

Although Erasmus+ internships are often unpaid, the EU does offer financial support. Depending on the mix of sending and receiving country, the amount of Erasmus+ financing varies from 400 to 800 euros. Applying for this EU award at their university helps Erasmus+ interns defray some of their travel, lodging, food, and insurance expenses. In the section below, find the Erasmus+ funding level specific to your nation.

However, most employers also give their interns extra financial perks like lunch vouchers, reimbursement for public transportation, or some amount of cash compensation.
You may get an Erasmus+ mobility grant in addition to any pay or compensation that your internship provider has agreed upon.

Students from underprivileged backgrounds or with special needs are eligible to receive additional funding for the Erasmus+ award.

It is possible to work remotely (from home) during this term, but funding for this will not be provided and there will be no Erasmus+ award.
